Fluoride is an element that may be found naturally in sources of drinking water, such as ground water. Fluoride has been added to drinking water by drinking water systems to improve dental health. To view more information about community drinking water fluoridation, please use the button below.

Effective July 1, 2025, waterworks in Virginia are required to report critical equipment failure of malfunction and/or contaminant releases to the Office of Drinking Water within two hours of discovery. To submit a 2-hour report, please call 1-866-531-3068 and report as a Drinking Water Emergency.
